Filed for a CSA pension in 1897 in Fulton Co., Ga. Stated in application he served four years and surrendered with the western army in Apr/1865. Pvt. Sanford Pinion signed an affidavit attesting to his service, states Armistead was honorable discharged and paroled near Greensboro, N.C. Died 3/24/1913, buried at Hollywood Cemetery, Atlanta, Fulton Co., Ga. Obituary printed 3/25/1913 in Atlanta Constitution newspaper.

3/25/1913 - Atlanta Constitution - W. J. Armistead, 75 years old, died at the residence, 65 Dillon Street, Monday night at 6 o'clock. he is survived by his wife and one son, J. T. Armistead. The funeral will be held from the residence Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. the interment will take place in Hollywood.
