Armistead, William J. - Pvt. 11/15/1861. In arrest by sentence of Court Martial 4/7/1862. Transferred to Capt. Hanleiter’s Company Ga. Light Artillery (Jo Thompson Artillery,) 6/10/1862. Dishonorably discharged, Special Order #17, 6/13/1862. (Born in Walton Co., Ga. in 1833.)

Filed for a CSA pension in 1897 in Fulton Co., Ga. Stated in application he served four years and surrendered with the western army in Apr/1865. Pvt. Sanford Pinion signed an affidavit attesting to his service, states Armistead was honorable discharged and paroled near Greensboro, N.C. Died 3/24/1913, buried at Hollywood Cemetery, Atlanta, Fulton Co., Ga. Obituary printed 3/25/1913 in Atlanta Constitution newspaper.

3/25/1913 - Atlanta Constitution - W. J. Armistead, 75 years old, died at the residence, 65 Dillon Street, Monday night at 6 o'clock. he is survived by his wife and one son, J. T. Armistead. The funeral will be held from the residence Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. the interment will take place in Hollywood.

Pallbearers will meet at the private chapel of Harry G. Poole at 1:30.
