Moon, W. G. - William Gable Moon - Pvt. September 10, 1862. Captured at Winchester, Va. September 19, 1864. Exchanged at Point Lookout, Md. March 15, 1865. Received at Boulware & Cox's Wharves, James River, Va., March 18, 1865.

Born in Ga. about 1843, farmer, single, living with parents Charles Gilliam (1816-1893) & Malissa Elizabeth Booth Moon, plus 7 siblings. Father owned land valued at $1,750 and property valued at $2,270. Father owned 4 slaves. He married Alethia Susan Butler 1/9/1868 in Elbert Co. Ga.

He died 10/11/1918, buried at Rehoboth Baptist Cemetery, Elbert Co. GA. Tombstone reads: CO H 38 GA INF CSA. Alethia died 5/13/1921.

Mr W G Moon died at his home in Goshen district last Friday. He had a stroke of paralysis several years ago and has been helpless since. He was a brave old Confederate soldier and had the respect of all who knew him. He is survived by his wife and a number of children, all of whom are grown.
