*This company was also known as Old Co. A, New Co. D, and Co. M. It was originally called "McLeod Artillery," but was never outfitted with cannon, it remained a pure infantry company and was later called the "Ben Hill Guards." It was ordered to be permanently detached from the 38th Georgia Regiment on 5/6/1864 by Special Order #105, but this order was never carried out and the company remained as an infantry company with the 38th Ga. until the end fo the war.
