Honoring and remembering Sergeant James Columbus Campbell, of Company F, Thornton's Line Volunteers, from Elbert County, Georgia.

He enlisted as a Private in Co. F, 15th Regiment Ga. Inf. 7/15/1861. Transferred to Co. F, 38th Regiment Ga. Inf., in exchange for John H. Hulme, 10/10/1862. Appointed 5th Sergeant 8/22/1864. Captured at Fisher’s Hill, Va. 9/22/1864. Released at Point Lookout, Md. 6/4/1865. Confederate Service Record states he was wounded at Gettysburg.

Widow, Sarah Ann Higginbotham Campbell filed a CSA widow’s pension application in Hart Co., Ga. in 1902. She stated he was born Oct/1824 in Elbert Co. and they were married in 1843 in Elbert Co. She stated he died 5/8/1893 in Elberton, Ga. Buried at Holly Springs Baptist Church Cemetery, Elbert Co., Ga. Obituary printed in Elberton Star newspaper, 5/12/1893.
