Staunton, Virginia was the site of a large Confederate General Hospital during the war. Most, if not all, of the soldiers who died of disease or wounds while there, are buried at Thornrose Cemetery in Staunton. Twenty members of the 38th Georgia Regiment are known to be buried at Thornrose Cemetery.

There is a large Confederate monument located in the center of the Confederate burial section, however only two graves are marked with individual stones. One of the two marked graves is for Pvt. Anderson P. Flowers of the 38th Georgia Regiment.
